Back in 2013, for a few months, I lived in a high-rise block and used to wake up to terrific sunrises!

The 'Pepperpot' at top right was the huer's look out. A huer had the responsibility of calling (hueing) the first sighting of the pilchard shoal. When that happened, the whole town swung into very serious action! The jetty and round stone hut on the left, having withstood many severe storms, finally succumbed to a huge storm the following year. And rebuilt extremely quickly. When I re-visited in 2014, it was as if nothing had been destroyed! I was impressed!

Rosa Daniel Gelin. I discovered, some time after posting this, that Daniel Gelin was a well-known French actor who died in the early 90s.

Happy Fence Friday!! From the Eastern slopes of Carn Marth looking south in the direction of Penryn and Falmouth, Cornwall

H. A. N. W. E. everyone! The spire of Truro Cathedral can be seen. Victoria Square; normally a busy town centre but, as I was waiting for the bus to take me back to my car at the park and ride, I suddenly noticed that a providential traffic lights arrangement had made the traffic vanish, so I whipped out my ... mobile phone!

I saw many of these sunrises when I lived in this 11 floor flat for a year.

North Cliffs, Cornwall. This shot is taken from the ramparts of Crane Castle, or what is left of this Iron Age hill fort. The flowering bank in the foreground leads up to the top of the landward defensive rampart; nearly all of the fort is now under the sea and would have occupied the now disappeared land between this position and the island ahead.

Spring flowers - June 2014. The Lavender flowers earlier in the valleys than here. It used to be called French or Provencal lavender because it has the same two top purple leaves (not petals) but recent DNA profiling showed that it is a different variety found only in Central and Southern Spain and Portugal.

Some of you may remember, from Panoramio, this piece of land belonging to my girlfriend. She is still trying to sell it, if anyone is interested! In the foreground; Spanish lavender.

Rock hopping here at low tide is not really an option - with all this seaweed about!

The cliffs and the sea are one foot behind me.

La Bola del Mundo in the Sierra de Guadarrama from El Pardo, northwest of Madrid. This mountain was thought at one time by the residents of Madrid to be the highest mountain in the world! It isn't even the tallest mountain in the Sierra de Guadarrama! (Z please!). Photo taken in May 2013, regardless of the exif date!

Encina (holm oak), Canchos Largo y Gordo. And granite, granite and more granite! Look closely at the oak. It has been lopped. This is a 'managed' wild landscape! It is also my favourite walking country.
