The fact that the owner of Real Madrid also owns one of the major construction companies in Spain is hardly a co-incidence, I think!

I would never want to be a crane driver, Fred! Too dangerous!

Are you sure they don't breed in the night ?

I would like to see how they go about it, Jean!
(and yet I think the graunching sounds of metal upon metal would be most off-putting! ... and certainly unromantic!)

A nicely detailed shot of this chaotic-looking building site Andy.

The thought that popped into my head was "I can see how Crane Flies got their name" :-))

Andy Rodker club has replied to Keith Burton club
Yes. the bird, the insect and the dancing cranes seen here. There are many obvious similarities as well as a few more nuanced things one can play with. Thanks Keith!
(although I think you will find that the insects pre-dated the machines by maybe many million years or so! and the possibility is therefore that they weren't named AFTER the machines at all ... and we can go round and round in circles here, but I would rather not!)

Hi Andy

A very nice picture, which I really like

Wonderful composition

I just hope the guy who designed this got his sums right, and none of the cranes can swing round in the wind and hit each other!!

Best Wishes, and stay safe!!

Andy, as an English teacher, what's the correct term for this? Is it a 'cascade' of cranes, a 'collection' a 'collage' or something else? Well taken and I'll be interested to see the progress.

Andy Rodker club has replied to tiabunna club
Well I know that for the bird, a goup of cranes can be any of the following;
a 'dance',
a 'sedge',
a siege, and
a swoop.
I would think that they all apply to mechanical cranes too. It would make sense (just about!).

tiabunna club has replied to Andy Rodker club
I found myself thinking about this yesterday and came up with the thought that, as (mechanical) cranes tend to be associated with large commercially built buildings, maybe the term should be a 'consortium'.

... a flock of cranes ... not an endangered species, apparently, in the current economy ...

... a timely capture ...
Andy Rodker club has replied to L. L. Wall club
There are still many cranes from the property crisis of 2011 / 2012 (in Spain) that are STILL standing exactly where they were left at that time! They will be joined by the added 'flock' from this new mega-depression that will hit us all.
