US 395 (#0502)

US 395 (#0502)
US 395, somewhere north of Mono Lake; an example of why US 395 is one of my favorite highways.

With the exception of going through Carson City and Reno, most of the highway from California through Nevada and across Oregon goes through rugged mountainous areas and has relatively low traffic.

Alas, the traffic is a lot greater than you might expect; 395 is a major north-south route. Around here (as you can see) you start to pick up 4 lanes here and there, which is a big help.

True, I should have said, 'with exception of from Lake Topaz to Susanville"

Well, actually, I'd say Susanville to Bridgeport! I don't like the stretch from Topaz Lake to Bridgeport either, and unless we're specifically going to somewhere around SR 108, we take the back way over to Smith Valley and then south on NV 338/CA 182.
