Cathedral Lake and Cathedral Peak

Cathedral Lake lies at 11,866 feet of elevation (3617 m) in the Colorado Rockies. Cathedral Peak is 13943 ft (4250 m). We camped in the meadows above the lake on our recent backpacking trip there and climbed nearby Electric Pass at 13,600 feet (4145 m).

Camp at Cathedral Lake

This was our backpacking camp at Cathedral Lake in the Colorado Rockies. The tent in front is mine and the tenet behind my brother's. We had rain the second night there and his tent leaked badly. We all ended up for the night in my tent.

Electric Pass

This is where I've been the last while. The photo looks north from Electric Pass in the Colorado Rockies near Aspen. My 14 year old grandson and I drove to Colorado last week, met one of my brothers and one of his grandsons, 11 years old. We camped over the weekend in Carbondale, Colorado and then spent three days backpacking to Cathedral Lake at 11866 feet (3617 m). We day-hiked from there to Electric Pass at 13,600 feet (4145 m). We had three good days of hiking and one very wet night. It was the first time backpacking or hiking in the mountains for the two grandsons and they both enjoyed it and did very well.

Colorado Rockies

This was taken near where we camped the second night of our backpacking trip in the Colorado Rockies last summer. I'll be leaving Friday to backpack in that area again with a brother, one of his grandsons and one of mine.

Colorado Rockies

This was the area where we camped one night while packing in the Colorado Rockies. The little lake in the photo is the same lake as shown in the other photo I've posted.

Wildflowers

These were the kind of wildflower meadows we saw when backpacking in the Colorado Rockies last summer. My brother and I agreed that we had never seen such an abundance or variety of wildlflowers. This meadow was near our camp west of Trailrider Pass.

Maroon Bells

These were the Maroon Bells from our camp on the west side of Trailrider Pass. Taken last summer when we were hiking in the Colorado Rockies, the photo is a reminder that I will soon be hiking in that area again with a brother and two grandsons, one of his and one of mine.
