Brink of Upper Yellowstone Falls
Traveling around the lower loop of Yellowstone National Park's main road, we've come to the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone and to the great falls of the Yellowstone River, Upper and Lower. Coming from Norris Junction we traveled east around the top of the loop for about 12 miles to Canyon Junction where the west sides of the upper and lower loops meet. Canyon Junction is one of the main tourist areas of Yellowstone and has a store, a campground and a visitors' center. From there one can explore the rims of the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone and see the Upper and Lower Falls from different viewpoints. We are following the north rim drive in these photos and just a little way to a side road and trail that bring us to the brink of the Upper Falls. The falls themselves are not visible here, only the river above the falls and the mist and spray from the falls. This photo and the other insets were all taken from the viewpoint at the end of the short trail. My next photos will be from a bit further east and will show the falls.
