Looks like something to do with the Space industry! Are these water towers still used nowadays Diane? They do make a good point of reference for the town though!

Oh, definitely. The most interesting ones are in the midwest and south, where they're made into ears of corn, fruit, teapots (and even a pineapple in Hawaii), etc. They appear in websites like RoadsideAmerica.com. tinyurl.com/zxve48o
