St. Jakobs Wasserturm und St. Max - St. Jacob's Water tower and St. Max Church

➽ Der Sankt Jakobs Wasserturm, einer von ehemals zwei Wassertürmen an der östlichen Stadtmauer der Jakobervorstadt, wurde 1609 vom Stadtbaumeister Elias Holl errichtet.

Bis heute ist die Originalfassade des Wasserturms erhalten geblieben. Im Inneren fehlen Spuren der früheren Funktion. Eine hölzerne Treppe führt bis ins Obergeschoß des Turmes. Hin und wieder finden hier Ausstellungen oder Lesungen statt.

➽ Augsburg bewirbt sich mit seiner historischen Wasserwirtschaft um den Unesco Welterbetitel. Es geht um Denkmäler, wie die Wasserwerke und -türme, sowie die kilometerlangen Lechkanäle. Von der Stadtgründung bis heute spielten und spielen sie eine wichtige Rolle in der Versorgung der Bürger und trugen wesentlich zur Entwicklung der Stadt bei.

➽ The St. Jacob´s water tower, is one of two former water towers on the eastern city wall built in 1609 by the city architect Elias Holl.
To date, the original facade of the water tower has been preserved. Inside missing traces of the earlier function. A wooden staircase leads to the upper floor of the tower. Every now and then exhibitions and readings takes place inside.
