➽ Die Moritzkirche ist eine der ältesten Kirchen in Augsburg. 1019 gründete der bairische Herzogssohn Bruno, Bischof von Augsburg (1006-1029) und Bruder Kaiser Heinrichs II. ein Chorherrenstift zu Ehren des Ritterpatrons St. Moritz.
Nach diversen Umbauten bzw. Wiederaufbauten wurde in der Bombennacht vom 25. zum 26. Februar 1944 ein großer Teil dessen zerstört, was über Jahrhunderte gewachsen war. Lediglich die Außenmauern der Kirche blieben stehen. Die Innenausstattung und -dekoration wurde fast vollständig ein Raub der Flammen. Der Turm blieb unversehrt.
Schon bald entschied man sich für den Wiederaufbau und beauftragte dafür einen der angesehensten Architekten der Nachkriegszeit: Dominikus Böhm aus Köln. Böhm gelang es, unter Bewahrung des in die Romanik zurückweisenden dreischiffigen basilikalen Baukörpers die verschiedenen Epochen der Baugeschichte zu zitieren und dennoch ein eigenständiges und aussagekräftiges Bauwerk zu schaffen. 2009 konnte der Londoner Architekt John Pawson für die Neugestaltung der Moritzkirche gewonnen werden. Er entwickelte ein Konzept der Klarheit und des Lichtes für diesen Sakralraum. Seit April 2013 erstrahlt der Kirchenraum im neuen Glanz. Quelle

➽ The St. Maurice church is one of the oldest churches in Augsburg. 1019 founded the Bavarian Duke son Bruno, Bishop of Augsburg ( 1006-1029 ) and brother of Emperor Henry II, a Monastery in honor of the knight patron St. Moritz.
After several modifications or reconstructions was in the bomb night of 25th/26th February 1944 destroyed a large part of what had grown over the centuries. Only the outer walls of the church remained standing. The interior design and decoration was almost completely destroyed by fire. The tower remained intact.
Soon it was decided to rebuild and commissioned for one of the most respected architects of the post-war period: Dominic Böhm from Cologne. Böhm succeeded to preserving the Romanesque three-nave basilica building structure, the different eras of architectural history and yet to create an independent and meaningful structure. In 2009, the London architect John Pawson could be won for the reorganization of the Church of St. Maurice. He developed a concept of clarity and light for this sacred space. Since April 2013, the church shines in new splendor. Source
