I want my mummy!

They always appear so vulnerable, the young. This one looks a fair size. It reminds me of a mother and juvenile Aussie magpie that used to visit me. The kid was as big as the mother and would scrunch itself up very small and perform a pathetic, moaning, scrounging croak to avoid having to exert itself to find its own nosh. Most cunning!

Thanks so much Güni. It was a great sight and they were in fact there for some hours more. As for the collage, well sometimes it is the best way to show a small set of photos I think. At least it guarantees that they will all be viewed equally well. You will have noticed that I left the whole photo quite large so that people could in fact zoom up

Such a delight to see Herb............and all beautifully captured. It must be lovely to have them in your garden. A very well put together collage!

Thanks Keith. We had feared that like most of our smaller garden birds, they might have deserted us after we withdrew the seeds and fat balls but no they like it here with these berry bushes and have obviously nested in our trees somewhere. As you say, a delight to see.

Will you go on feeding them... or maybe it isn´t necessary?. Will we see more of what is going on with them?

Hi Eva and thanks for this visit. Yes, the advice (from the RSPB) was to stop feeding them (as feeders attract many birds into close proximity) because of bird flu from May till September and so we will start again in September. We have many berry trees and the soil is full of worms as also our many flowers and flowering plants have many insects on them. However, I found out yesterday that a new neighbour, just across our boundary has put out multiple bird feeders thus negating our attempt at bird safety. Our blackbirds are quite independent of such feeders and so we will continue to see them, magpies and cats allowing!
