Down the Huddersfield Canal

Down the Huddersfield Canal
A shot taken at the Uppermill railway viaduct over the canal. A rather unusual site in seeing a moving canal boat.
I shake my head at this as it was not even done by me, but my wife Eileen by my side as I stood with the telephoto -she using my Iphone. Why do I shake my head? It’s because at first glance this can hardly be differentiated from my own Nikon SLR photos that I took here. This was in fact a wider angle photo that I could not have taken as I did not have my wide lens with me. I always thought that when phone photos were as good (or nearly as good) as quality SLR+Raw –it will be time to retire my hobby. But…..

Enjoy full screen.

She was pleased to see this from you Gordon.
To be honest, I had two other photos from this spot that I had taken at the same time (really quite nice) , set as PiPs but I took them out as there seemed no interest or comments on them. I might use them on another occasion.

Keep safe. Herb

A superb image with nice composition, Herb,
I have arthritis in the hands, so holding a phone for photographs is impossible.

I know Eileen was very happy with this composition that she alone had full control off. Arthritis in the hands is not good. Good that you can still operate your SLR ok.

Keep safe. Herb

No surrender Herb -SLR til we die! having said that its a fab shot , and I have to admit to using my phone for the odd sneaky shot now and again. Might look good in black and white this one

Oh no, don't retire Herb!! I'm sure you won't as you enjoy photography so much :-) It is a very good picture and I love the viaduct! There is also a lot more to see with the canal boat by the tunnel. I have to have a viewfinder to take photos and sometimes the light shines on the screen of an i-phone, which makes it hit or miss with the picture. I do like your wife's shot very much though :-))
Cheers, Rosa.

It seems really narrow, the passage for the boats of this canal. The viaduct in the background is an amazing scenery for the canal that reflects it so well.

A great capture of this scene, Herb. Yes, the camera phones are coming to get us! I was out taking photos a few days ago, surrounded by people using them - and found myself the only one with a DSLR.
