Stathes in its glory

Stathes in its glory
A walk over the wet sand gives me a view of the bottom village with a bit of sun. The first people are getting a seat at the pub and are probably watching to see what I am doing here. This scene must be a world away from the same place a couple of centuries , with its many ships of sail here and multiple fishing boats too. The place would have been heaving with working families making a living from the sea.

The name Staithes means 'landing place' in Old English, and the village once boasted one of the largest fishing ports in the area with around 80 boats coming in and out of the harbour on a daily basis. The fishermen traditionally used a coble which is a type of open fishing boat, developed on the North East Coast.

Very nice !
No wonder Staithes attracts so many artists with their paintbrushes (and now cameras).

Very nice October weather as well, which often happens. Cheers, Rosa.

A fascinating view of this lovely old village................and you've found a great point to take the shot from. I hope you didn't get wet feet!

I like reflected light on the wet sand and mud, and the use of the mooring lines to lead us into the scene. The grounded boats make great foreground interest.

I like the way the houses look in the sunshine................you could almost imagine this was taken in the Mediterranean somewhere. Very nice indeed Herb.

Thanks for sharing the link..............the old photos are very interesting.

As I said to Toz, Keith, my feet did get a little wet, wearing just my trainers here. I tried to get a nice lead-in with the lines etc but the star of the show was the white house reflections in the sand -at least for me. Aye, Med light for sure. My pleasure to share as you know.

Ah yes Daniela, like you I don't live on the sea but it is never too far away. The nearest to me at Southport is around 80km. It might be vey nice to live near it too but I would still want my hills.

Domodossola is about 250 km from Genua. Maybe I too would want to live in the middle of the mountains like now.

Herb Riddle club has replied to Daniela Brocca club
Ah I see that Domodossola is not too far from the beautiful high Alps near the Matterhorn and also Lake Maggiore which is also most beautiful. There are many worse places to live. I would think overall it is far better than my home in England: Oldham. Although, I don't have to travel far, as you know, for very big changes in scenery and city.

Very nice Herb. I remember having some world-beating fish and chips in Staithes followed by a pint at that pub on the quay.

Herb Riddle club has replied to Loose_Grip/Pete club
Thanks Peter. I can't remember seeing a chip shop there but I am sure there must have been one. Yes, that pub is pretty popular. The cost of parking at the top, has soared over the years though.
