A cold but beautiful reality.

A cold but beautiful reality.
A bleak January day at my local big cemetery (Greenacres) reveals some of my photo stamping grounds. With deep frost and snow on the ground and gravestones we are blessed with some wonderful lighting as the sun tries to peek through the hazy low cloud. A few minutes later it was to snow again.
Below us is the suburb of Lees with St Thomas’s church dominating. Behind that, are our foothills of the Pennines showing the area of my photographic haunts in Saddleworth and its moors to the left; and the Hartshead Pike monument to the right. Behind the Pike hills is another area I frequent for the sake of Ipernity; the reservoirs of Stalybridge.
My home is a five minute walk from here.

ps On inserting this, I realised that I had never posted a photo of Hartshead Pike on here and so I have just found one of my old Panoramio one's. See PiP or last photo.

Enjoy full screen.

that’s a impressive PiP I can see why you have gone back to that older photo to repost here.

Aye Colin -maybe my photo taking was better in the old days :) I see from my extensive Panoramio collection, quite a few nice photos that I might post again some day but I know its not worth posting more than one a day as they are generally bypassed by my viewers.

Not necessarily so Herb, I look at all photo's when I can but only comment on some that appeal most. I don't like to use the star to show I visited the image. I like the PIP here, a clear image with a very cold feel.

Thanks Maurice and yes, I know what you say is quite true too. I just know from experience that if I post two together as I have done this morning, generally the first one posted seems to be totally ignored; at least as far a comments are concerned. I am sure you (and there will be others too) are the exception. - That being said - my sunset of the pike has already a few comments to prove me wrong :)

Keep safe my friend. Herb

So glad you liked this one in full screen Toz. I rather enjoyed it too but I must admit that it comes second place in impact to the preceding Hartshead Pike shot. It was'nt half cold as I took this one!

Fotografía del sobrio cementerio, sin muchos distingos de clase. Unos pocos con cruz, quizá por diferencia religiosa. El punto de toma quizá mejor para ver el paisaje. PiP buena luz.

Ah yes, you are so right Jose. I really wanted the gravestones to anchor the whole very big scene. So happy that you enjoyed this.

Quite different palette to the previous photo Peter but they both have their separate impact. Thank you.

The hazy sunshine is really beautiful, especially over the distant hills. I love the rows of gravestones standing like sentinels in silent memory of those who have passed on. I like the sombre atmosphere! Excellent Herb.

I've commented on the PiP separately.

I bit of everything here Keith but it tells a story perhaps. My title also shows my feelings about this one. Very good that you too appreciated it.

Great light and atmosphere Herb. The lighter sky over the hills behind the dark clouds creates a wonderful effect.

The lighting creates most of the atmosphere here. The same scene on a bright sunny day is quite different indeed. Glad you liked it.

The city of those who went away..
At the top of the hill where the sun first appears or disappears at the end of the day
A huge territorial density but very well urbanized
I like very much the light, tones and all composition, Herb

You say it all here my friend. You see I am surrounded in an urban jungle -even moreso behind me here but I look upon real natural scenery too. So glad that you liked this n with its ghostly light.
