The coastal village of Staithes

The coastal village of Staithes
Described as a village full of character, I think that plays down the description a little! Here we see most of the lower village. It has winding cobbled streets full of charming 18th century cottages and shops. When you are there, it is difficult to believe that it was once one of the largest fishing ports in the north east. A great place to explore with its rock pools and fossil cliffs, not to mention its olde-worlde pub in prime position on the quay.
Staithes' most famous resident, James Cook worked in Staithes as a grocer's apprentice where he first gained his passion for the sea.

The indented coast, the mouth of the river, the colorful houses and in height, the wonderful fishing port
A pearl embedded in the cliff!
An astonishing perspective with light and shades of enormous tranquility
Many thanks also for the interesting note, Herb

A magical image Herb.............I love the composition and the detail (especially in the houses) is superb. I also like the diffused light and slightly muted colour palette. The sea walls look like they're doing a good job of keeping the little harbour fairly calm, but I can imagine the whole place gets a bit of a battering in really bad weather.

Definitely worth viewing large................an extraordinary shot sir..!!
