Evostar ED80

It may be raining and clouds but I am far from sitting still. I lent my telescope to my student as I went to the 8" and a brand new focuser. I was lucky to make the acquaintance with a person a bit like me older and a few more years in to the hobby.

His biggest claim to fame is that he can fix things My student mount was binding and I was given it to to try to prove that was some thing wrong with it. John came down and helped my to try and over come the interent stiffness as I was not able to balance the mount at all. turns out the mount had been dropped at some point so what was a free turning circle came to be a squashed tight mount. He has since got the mount to the free spin that is should have had after I conducted the trial that proved there was nothing wrong with the mount but stiff.


I told him the story of my focuser that stop working and the Italian suppliers would not fix under warranty but where happy to offer me a new one with a reduced price of 10%. I told them send it back home I would not waste any more money on there products. John took on the challenge to fix it I am happy to say the focuser is working as it did when I first bought it.



I got the scope back in bit and bobs so I broke it down even further and cleaned out the dust inside on the glass and tube. I have cleaned it all back to how I had it and started to put it all back together I have a filter wheel but not the right brand of camera to run it. So it was try and get it working on its own. I am happy to say I got it to work with a lot of fiddling about and down loads. I have a full set of filters so I am setting this up as my second fiddle to take wider fields. I have to work out how to balance once again rotation of camera and the whole telescope in the white rings.

I am currently waiting on a new base plate and some new rings to get it 100% operational . the table was covered with parts not connected to each other but the computer to get them all working and found by the computer that will sit underneath and run it. Much like look of Kaos.
