Ravenna- San Vitale -Capitello bizantino
-----------------------------------------------
San Vitale also reflects Byzantine manners and tastes in the perforated stone slabs (carved and decorated with stylised plant motifs, peacocks and doves) and above all in the basket capitals, perhaps carved directly in Constantinople, richly perforated like embroidered fabrics and equipped with carved pulvinas, adorned with zoomorphic figures and the cross.
