In basso si distende un prato verde con fiori e arbusti. Gesù è imberbe, secondo l’antica iconografia paleocristiana non ancora tramontata, ha l’aureola crociata, regge nella mano sinistra il rotolo della Legge divina e, con la destra, porge la corona del martirio a san Vitale, che la riceve con le mani velate. Dalla parte opposta, riconosciamo il vescovo Ecclesio, colui che dette inizio alla costruzione della Chiesa di San Vitale, nell’atto di offrire a Cristo il modello dell’edificio.

According to ancient early Christian iconography, Jesus is amberbe, he has a crusading halo, holds the scroll of the divine Law in his left hand and, with his right hand, hands the crown of martyrdom to Saint Vitale, who receives it with veiled hands. On the opposite side, we recognise Bishop Ecclesio, the one who started the construction of the Church of San Vitale, in the act of offering Christ the model of the building.
