--------------------------------------
The archivolt rests on two capitals supported by octagonal columns, supported in turn by two mighty oxen (at human height) that seem to come out of the wall. Resting on large shelves, the oxen turn their patient and serene gaze towards the door. Despite the fact that their symbolism is quite unusual in the ecclesial world, the oxen still find themselves pulling a cart in the central part of the terminal arch of the jambs. It is likely that they were part of a building in the Palazzo del Catepano, and that they were later reused for the portal of the Basilica.
( The oxen are without horns and ears, there are holes)
