A nice piece of industrial history, In Leicester there was a Lifting Bridge designed by Robert Stephenson in1833 it allowed canal traffic to pass under a railway line it was replaced in 1845 by one that was almost identical and contained parts from the old one. It eventually went to an industrial museum, when that was closed to save money the bridge was dismantled the metal work went into storage and all the wood was destroyed !!!
