She Lies

She Lies
She Lies (Norwegian: hun ligger) is a public sculpture by Monica Bonvicini made of stainless steel and glass panels measuring approximately 12 metres (39 ft) by 17 metres (56 ft) by 16 metres (52 ft) next to the Oslo Opera House, in Norway.

It is a permanent installation, floating on the water in the fjord on a concrete platform, 12 metres (39 ft) above the water surface. The sculpture turns on its axis in line with the tide and wind, offering changing experiences through reflections from the water and its transparent surfaces. The sculpture was made by Bonvicini as a three-dimensional interpretation of Caspar David Friedrich's painting The Sea of Ice (Das Eismeer) (1823–1824). en.wikipedia.org/wiki/She_Lies

I would have liked to see this sculpture from the seaward side looking towards the Opera House, because the back-lighting was difficult.

buonacoppi, Nouchetdu38, Andy Rodker, and 27 other people have particularly liked this photo

I'd say you got away with the backlighting very well, Amelia. It certainly is unusual.

I like this sculpture a lot, it looks different every time!
You did manage well with the difficult lighting conditions. Shooting RAW is helpful in such cases because it gives you more scope.

So unusual Amelia, I would like to see this in person reflecting the sun, the sky and the water, this is most unusual, a good photo of "She Lies".. and what an unusual name! :) Sarah

interesting the reference to Caspar David Friedrich. I saw that painting and indeed there is a resemblance

Thats a really intriguing sculpture..............I can see how it would change according to the light, tide and clouds. Very clever.

I can also see how difficult it would be to photograph in certain conditions. Given that harsh light I think you've done a very good job Amelia. I also like the overall compostion, especially the positioning of the sailing boat.

There seems to be a perchant for outdoor art at the moment I know a huge painting was put into a lake in Snowdonia on a float too. This one is interesting and the idea of it changing with the tides is fascinating.

I spent some time looking at this, initially I thought from the thumbnail that a building had collapsed along with it's scaffolding, obviously once I opened the frame and with your documentary it all became obvious. Do I like it !!! not sure! Very clever and difficult for you to have captured it in the right light and position.

I am not aware of the painting but I do like it as a sculpture and as a photograph. Not an easy subject for sure.
Were you on dry land or a boat to take the photo?
