So… I have not consulted Alan about this, and I'm totally OK with being overruled - because you know, this is just a little group in a tiny corner of the great big universe, and I'm not going to be crushed by dissent - but here's what my suggestion would be for posting.
..We've got some really great pictures to start off this group and i'm loving it - but what I would like to see is NOT just photos of people in front of their house holding (say) a pet or whatever, but people that are clearly house proud. Perhaps you can imagine a caption like "here's where we live" or "here's what our house looks like" or "our new house". I think it's great to see a good portion of it so that we can see the style, too - but anyway, agree with me or call me a "photo fascist", I can take it. What do you all think?
Thanks, friends!

Hi Deborah,

Your points are well taken—it would be nice to see as much house and pride (as well as people and vintageness, too) as possible—but I hope that additional specifications won't discourage anyone from joining or posting photographs.

In any case, I used some of your wording to update the group's description (see my original initial paragraph along with the new additions below). What do you—or anyone else reading this—think?

Thanks,

Alan

Vintage House-Proud People - About this group

Vintage photographs of "house-proud" people from the 1800s to 1979. Post photos from your collection that show people posing in front of their homes. Each photo should include the exterior of a house and one or more people.

Photos of house-proud people and their houses will ideally convey the idea of "here's where we live" or "here's what our house looks like" or "our new house." Images that show an entire house—or a good portion of it—are especially encouraged so that we can see the types and styles of houses that people were proud of.

No one photo will perfectly capture all these qualities, however. The intent of this group is to share, discuss, and enjoy photos of people of the past posing with and showing off their houses.

(Thanks to Deborah Lundbech for suggesting this group.)
