☑ What's With This New Cookie Banner?

I get a banner that says something about cookies, but all it allows me to do is to "allow" them. How do I disallow them? The banner is covering all my links at the top of the page and I can't get anywhere or to my personal settings. What's up with cookie banners all of a sudden?

If you wish to continue using ipernity, you have to allow cookies, or stop using ipernity.

All cookies used at ipernity are only used to serve the user to get things done: sign in, display, etc.

There are also no real change to what already were in use. It is only the EU regulations that force us to give that warning from now on.

Also mentioned on 2021-02-26 Club News:

"Due to a recent ruling by the European Court of Justice, the cookie guidelines have become stricter. We are therefore unfortunately obliged to now also introduce the user-unfriendly opt-in procedure for the approval of cookies before using our website. We ask for your understanding."

Although the ipernity cookie info is out of date, the cookies are still used only to help the user:

- to recognize the language and time zone used
- to recognize you as a user of the service
- for other user preference

".. these Cookies save information related to the browsing of your computer on our site (the pages consulted, the date and time of consultation, etc.) that are remembered for your following visits. They contain the most recent information you have provided to us. This way when visiting us next time you will not need to fill out the proposed form again."

If you are an ipernity user, you must accept cookies.

By blocking cookies you will not be able to sign in.

So, what is not up to date is the number of them. During ima in control, there are now more than just four cookies. Even up to 26 (or more) used to make the pages run nicer and smoother. There are for example several cookies used on 'Display' settings:

www.ipernity.com/blog/team/4732054

And for example one to remember if user has read the breaking news.

None of the cookies are used for advertising. Neither given to any third party.

However, if user decides to embed some contents on the post, one then uses also external cookies as well. For example embedding Deezer onto image caption then also invites some Deezer cookies.

And what comes to technical side of this issue, ima team desperately needs people who can implement such things like disable all cookies. At the moment it is more or less possible on the client side only, by telling the browser to disable them for certain web sites.

I even suspect that number of web sites claiming they give option to disable cookies does not actually do it, because they can not.

For example Rotten Tomatoes also does not even pretend to give option to disable cookies:
www.rottentomatoes.com/m/cats_2019

The same with Minecraft:
minecraft.gamepedia.com/Cat

So, it is either take it or leave it.
