Our weekend has begun sunny and snowy, having gotten about six inches of snow overnight.
And the old oak is losing it bark! It looks sturdy enough, though!

Enjoy snow on my behalf then !

I think this beautiful old oak tree will be around for a few years yet..........and even though its branches will probably stay bare, it will still support a lot of insects, fungi and other wildlife.

I love the detail you've captured in the trunk and bark and I like the wild flowers growing around it's base.

I have some photos of it taken through the years… like I do for my favorite trees…

Ob es an der Trockenheit lag? Ich verfolge voll Mitgefühl und Sorge die Berichte über die Trockenheit in Südeuropa. Für die Bauern ist es dramatisch wie wir es noch nie erlebt haben. Unsere Trockenpetioden sind damit gar nicht zu vergleichen, obwohl ich durch die Dürre im letzten Jahr auch meine schlechteste Ernte hatte. In den letzten vier Monaten hatten wir allerdings ungewöhnlich viel Regen mit rund 350 Litern / m², so dass wir nicht auf die Felder können, um die Sommersaaten in die Erde zu bringen.
Und so wie Keith sagt, in die Eiche wird jetzt neues Leben einziehen.

It is the drought, it has been a reality since the beginning of the millenium, less and less rain. This rain season we had less than 30 days with some rain, not rainy days but days with some rain, what is not at all the same. North country is ok, they are still having real rain and had plenty this winter. Last rains in the south are due in April, but since January no rain and none forecasted…
Hope you will soon be able to get seeds in the ground…
