Rhynchophorus ferrugineus, our palm trees killer...
Wednesday I went on my archives to get an insect for monday's challenge. Just after uploading the picture I went to my terrace take some air and there was a palm tree insect dead on the ground!!! I picked it up, put it on a plant, got my camera....

das er tod war (was man ihm nicht ansieht), ist dann wohl was erfreuliches, wenn er sonst Eure Palmen zerstört

Oh..never seen this kind of insect before....I guess that´s because of there are no palms growing here ;) The middle part of this insect looks like it´s made of wood ;)

Dead insects are the best models. We can make with them what we want...
Excellent contribution with wonderful patterns on his backside.
What does he do to those palm trees to make him so dangerous?

It is the insect responsible for the death of almost all palm trees in the Mediteranean area...

Does he eat them???
Xata club has replied to klaus 040 club
Yes. They feed themselves in the heart of the palm tree, digging galeries, they reproduce and emigrate to another tree when the one they are born in gets overcrowded... the tree dies from that.
