Worshippers pose for a group photo
In front of this five images I was invited to take place between the two standing ladies for being pictured on their photo.
Two worshippers and a kid are sticking gold leaves to the Buddha images, only men are allowed to do this. In the meantime the 5 small gilded Buddha images are covered with the gold leaves spent from thousands pilgrims who have added so much gold leaf to the statues that each has become virtually a solid lump of gold – and extremely heavy despite their comparatively small size.
The statues have been at Inle Lake since then and various miracles have been ascribed to them including one in 1965 when the barge carrying the Buddha images capsized in a storm and all was lost but the Buddha images suddenly then re-appeared the next day at Phaung Daw U Paya.
