Figurengruppe am Jüdischen Friedhof an der Große Hamburger Straße in Berlin.

Hinter dem Zaun befindet sich seit 1672 ein jüdischer Friedhof. 1943 verwüsteten SS-Leute auf Befehl der Gestapo (Geheime Staatspolizei) den Friedhof. Das jüdische Altersheim und die benachbarte jüdische Knabenvolksschule wurden von der Gestapo als Sammellager für die Deportation von Juden verwendet. Von hier aus wurden 55000 Juden in die Vernichtungslager des Ostens deportiert.
Am Ende des 2. Weltkriegs wurde der Friedhof als Massengrab für gefallene Soldaten und im Bombenhagel getötete Zivilisten verwendet. Heute ruhen hier etwa 3000 jüdische Verstorbene und 3000 Kriegsopfer.
Zum Gedenken an die jüdischen Opfer wurde 1985 diese Figurengruppe von Will Lammert aufgestellt.

Ich weiß, dass es provokant klingt, aber wer gedenkt in vergleichbarer Weise der Opfer von Hiroshima und Nagasaki und Korea und Vietnam und vergleichbaren Stätten auch im nahen Osten und an anderen Stellen dieser Welt ??
Ich fühle mich belastet durch alle diese Schuld-Gedenk-Tage der letzten 100 Jahre, die ich nicht zu vertreten habe !

Natürlich haben wir nach dem 2. Weltkrieg Geborene keine Schuld an Taten, die unsere Vorfahren zu verantworten haben. Diese Figurengruppe ist ein Denkmal, kein Schuld-mal. Und ich finde, man sollte an solche Taten erinnern, damit soetwas nicht wieder passiert. Die Auseinandersetzung mit Verbrechen aus der Vergangenheit muss man ertragen (können / wollen), auch wenn man nicht selbst der Schuldige ist. Das ist die Last, die wir Deutschen tragen müssen.

A sad story here showing once again the plight of the Jewish people in WW2. We witnessed a very sad Jewish cemetery in Krakow, Poland. ~ As being of German heritage, this story still saddens and shames me!
