I wonder...do they dye their own clothing using locally available pigments?

They probably got them from Bikaner, the closest big town (city) where there are dyers areas, filled with rooftops full of drying cloths in various stages of dying. Some would be traditional dyes, but these tradionally dyed cloths are now quite expensive, whereas the ones carried by traders to the villages where people are poor are more likely to be chemical dyes. These women are wearing cotton, but increasingly also, village women wear nasty cheap dyed nylon saris ....in up to 50C heat!!!
