The Climb

The Climb

"The Climb" at Uluru as seen in March 2017 (but closed at the time due to high temperatures). Not my cup of tea anyway, so I can't really say I am sorry that since 26th October 2019 the climb is officially forbidden. Personally, I prefer looking at Uluru by walking around it, or even better, from above during a helicopter scenic flight :-)

I agree...it is better viewed from other aspects, and the climb, as you say, now closed, is disrespectful to the traditional owners. The poles and chains have already been removed!

That's good to hear! Apart from that, I find the gorges at Kata Tjuta much more interesting if you are into walking and climbing.

Wonderful perspective!
It is very welcome that finally a sign has been set of respect to the Aborigines and their culture.

I totally agree with you! I have never understood why anyone would want to do the steep climb in the heat anyway when there are so many other interesting places to see around Uluru.

A stunning shot.............I love how the fence looks so insignificant against the surface of the rock. The colours are wonderful.

It was really good to see that the authorities finally decide to respect the wishes of the indigenous peoples and impose a ban in climbing this sacred site. It's just a shame they took so long!

HFF to you............I hope you have a splendid weekend.

Well taken and I'm also glad it's now closed. You were quite right that a helicopter is the way to see it from above and in context. HFF and have a great weekend.

I went there in 1979 and climbed the Rock. I'm glad I climbed it and I'm sorry for those who wont be able to climb in the future.

When we walked way past the cairn where everyone else stopped. We observed many pools of water with a small variety of creatures swimming in them and small plants growing near them. You would never see these from a helicopter. Another interesting thing was that a man in his early 20s appeared in that area having climbed up the side of the rock.

How can you experience the immensity and detail of the Rock just by looking at it from a distance?
