As you approach Custom House Quay, the eye is drawn to an unusual statue with arms outstretched. This is one of the few memorials in the country to groups of men and women who left Britain to join the International Brigades in Spain. Quoted from BBC Scotland.

Jean, Andy Rodker, Rosalyn Hilborne, have particularly liked this photo

A fitting memorial Joe and the flowers look beautiful. Are they regularly laid there do you know?
Cheers, Rosa.

It's a shame these pages are no longer updated by the BBC. They were a good resource.
The irony to me it that the style of this statue of La Pasionara is more like that of the Falangist movement and statues you once saw in Spain dedicated to the dead of the Right, before they were removed in the late 70s, early 80s. I suppose both the Far Left and Far Right admired the same sort of monolithic strength in their sculptures and architecture.
