Contribution for the Project 21 Quarterly theme Jan - Mar 2021: Abstract
And if longing seizes you for sailing the stormy seas,
when the Pleiades flee mighty Orion
and plunge into the misty deep
and all the gusty winds are raging,
then do not keep your ship on the wine-dark sea
but, as I bid you, remember to work the land.

Sami Serola (inactiv… club has replied to JanYou should really use 'out of focus' more often.
Sami Serola (inactiv… club has replied to * ઇઉ * club* ઇઉ * club has replied to Sami Serola (inactiv… clubI am considering renaming the 'Bokeh as MAIN subject' group to more clearly define the true purpose of this group. Maybe or hopefully then more members will feel encouraged.
This would also significantly minimize the lengthy group description by the group's founder, which hardly anyone seems to read anyway.
Sami Serola (inactiv… club has replied to * ઇઉ * club* ઇઉ * club has replied to Sami Serola (inactiv… clubHowever, I won't leave it at that, as it is not really good for ipernity to have a myriad of orphaned and partly inactive groups. But one by one.
Sami Serola (inactiv… club has replied to * ઇઉ * clubThe main problem is to make people understand it is not a good idea to establish competitive groups on the same topic, or have groups on very narrow subject.
Although, I understand some groups were started because other groups on similar topic were abandoned during ima take over, and then the group administration left to inactive members who does not even have subscription anymore.
* ઇઉ * club has replied to Sami Serola (inactiv… clubDeleting such groups is, soberly considered, the only reasonable option. After all, who is willing to take over such groups, clean them up from scratch and, if necessary, set them up anew? The effort is simply not worth it in most cases. Therefore, hats off to ima for its courageous approach in this regard as well.
* ઇઉ * club has addedAccording to my countless observations, however, competition awakens baser instincts and poisons interpersonal relationships.
However, the creation of (new) groups with the same or similar topic/s also has other reasons.
Sami Serola (inactiv… club has replied to * ઇઉ * club1) Members found the rules of the existing group too restrictive, which is why they open a similar group for themselves. I say this is completely understandable. I've seen cases where members have tried to negotiate to get things changed, but not succeeded, and therefore found it as an only option to put up a new group.
2) Group administrators does not get along, which is why some of them decides to start a group of their own. So, the poisonous interpersonal relationship can be also the cause. I've been involved into this, being the person who decided to give up, and start a new. Difficult to say if it is then making the situation even worse, or making it better in a long run. But I understand it may look strange for the outsiders, when there are some groups that seem to have some overlap. My suggestion then is to also try to make the new group at least somehow different than the other.
3) Members find the current administrator(s) inactive, and can not even reach them. The whole group is then found neglected, which is why some of the members decide to start a similar group of their own. This especially happened because of ima take over and numerous people leaving ipernity, and not taking care of the groups left. The ima team now has tools to get this fixed, but it takes time. I hope the new team puts more effort on this, and even takes over the abandoned groups more actively, and either close them, or negotiate with other groups on the same topic to find out, which of them should become closed.
