Wien, Burggarten / Vienna, Castle Garden
In 1821, the Imperial Garten, originally Court Garden, was laid out on the grounds behind the bastion Augustinerbastei, directly next to the imperial castle. It was the emperor's private garden. It was not until 1919 that this beautiful park was opened to the public. And because the Habsburg imperial family always had a soft spot for exotic plants, for which it was too cold in Vienna in winter, they let a palm house built not only at Schoenbrunn but also next to the centrally located castle on the edge of the park.
