Thanks, much chalk used from the North Downs areas and plenty of flint to bulk out the mortars ('clunch' quite common around the area).

Nice shot Roger. I visited there recently but did not have enough time to look around the castle...just the gardens.

HI Rosa, apart form the free access to the castle keep and gardens, usually a good day to visit is probably Wednesday, when between 2pm - 4pm, for a reasonable fee there are guided tours available around the main building that explain quite a lot about the castle history with access to a number of internal spaces. Currently the main Bishop's accommodation is a well used wedding venue.
