It did suffer during the Parliamentarian attacks and was subject to 'improvements' by later incumbent bishops. this area on top of the mound was turned into a private garden by one of them (one of Frith's postcards of the castle had the gardens as a subject); thanks, had plenty of practice with the virtual needle!
