I remember that washday job, we had one at home in the fifties, good bit of exercise too.

Oh my goodness this takes me back. My gran had one of these. Even her irons were heated on a range I recall. Wash day must have been back breaking work back then. Great capture Roger and many thanks for the memories

Thanks - from distant (very) memory, I recall washday always on a Monday, regardless of the weather, and this was the only bit of machinery to be seen in most houses. My grandmother also had a new fangled gas powered iron, just connected a rubber tube to a small gas tap on the cooker and lit it with a match. forget H&S, kept you warm as well!
