Lacock Abbey

Lacock Abbey is a quirky country house, developed over the centuries around a former 13th century nunnery, and much later the birthplace of modern photography. It is set in spacious wooded grounds, with plenty of space to picnic, and is now recognisable from films varying from Pride and Prejudice to Harry Potter. The village was also the setting for the excellent TV series "Cranford".

I was lucky with the weather on this visit and it does help :) The village is just 10 miles from Castle Combe, which is supposed to be the prettiest village in England and it has the same colour stone. I know of a few lovely villages that could rival it.

The greens and blues enhance the soft colour of the stone, beautiful photos! If I remember correctly, one of the bay windows in the PiP was in one of Fox Talbot's earliest photographs.
