Lacock Abbey

Lacock Abbey
DSC 0046

Lacock Abbey is a quirky country house, developed over the centuries around a former 13th century nunnery, and much later the birthplace of modern photography. It is set in spacious wooded grounds, with plenty of space to picnic, and is now recognisable from films varying from Pride and Prejudice to Harry Potter. The village was also the setting for the excellent TV series "Cranford".

It is not surprising that film directors have been seduced by this rather atypical residence!!!!!

Two really lovely architectural images Rosa............this is a really beautiful building with a fascinating history. I love the colour of the stonework which looks particularly nice in the sunshine.

You really are good at this sort of photography.........thanks for sharing!

I was lucky with the weather on this visit and it does help :) The village is just 10 miles from Castle Combe, which is supposed to be the prettiest village in England and it has the same colour stone. I know of a few lovely villages that could rival it.

Thank you so much for your kind comments Keith.

It definitely looks a little quirky, I didn't expect it to look like that, Rosa. However, it suits photography because isn't more interesting to take a photo of something quirky instead of something average and regular? ;-) Well, the latter can be fun too depending on your POV and what you emphasize.

Rosalyn Hilborne club has replied to Edna Edenkoben club
Sometimes we see quirky, usually average and maybe regular....the POV might make the difference :-)) Lovely comments Edna, thank you :-))

The greens and blues enhance the soft colour of the stone, beautiful photos! If I remember correctly, one of the bay windows in the PiP was in one of Fox Talbot's earliest photographs.

Thank you very much for your kind comment Gudrun.
Yes you are right about the oriel window being the one
Fox-Talbot took his earliest photo from. That room was
not on the tour this time unfortunately.
