Cutt Mill ~ HDR

Cutt Mill ~ HDR
Cut Mill, on the River Stour at Hinton St Mary, near Sturminster Newton. The location is half-a-mile down a narrow lane thought to be a Saxon hollow way.

I set the camera on HDR for this shot and I would be interested to know which of the two pictures you prefer, if you have the time.

Marco F. Delminho, Gudrun, Ste, Sylvain Wiart and 20 other people have particularly liked this photo

An interesting experiment Rosa. I think this is the better one... but only just!!. I presume it was a three exposure HDR. Well done for for trying this technique. Lovely view of this old mill... YS... John.

It was 2 exposures John. I only set it for this one photo as I could see what I was doing very well because of the sun....but I'm not complaining about that ;-) Many thanks for your kind comments and YS....Rosa.

Mooi experiment,Rosa!

It was 2 recordings Frans. I did not use a tripod, that is why I just tried it on the one picture...my hands were quite steady, which is unusual ;-) I will try it out more often and take a tripod with me also! Hope you have a nice weekend too....Rosa.

There is more contrast on this one (Sky, reflexion.).
Well, it is a matter of taste!!!!! Both shots are good!!!!

Thank you for taking the time to comment :) To me it seems to make the colours a little darker, but I left the picture as it was taken except for resizing. I am pleased you like both shots :))

I can't help you, I'm afraid! I like both equally, Rosa.
I like this one for the extra definition afforded to the clouds and I like the non-HDR one for its slightly greater naturalness. For me, the jury's out!
But I'm YS-ing both for good measure, anyway!

To my eye I don't see a lot of difference - they are both excellent shots Rosa.

Thank you for your kind comments Carol. I have lived i n this area almost all my life and never ventured down this lane! It's got a dead end sign and nothing else, so I would never have guessed this was there! Hope you are having a lovely weekend too :)

If you mean comparing it to your other shot of this mill that is of a wider composition then I prefer this one it has more depth of colour to it and the reflections in the water are better defined and the water a better colour too. The sky and clouds are similarly too. The branch in the top righthand corner is a minor irritant but overall it is a great shot in my opinion

Rosalyn Hilborne club has replied to Nick Weall club
Thank you Nick I did try to clone the branches out, but not very successfully....so I left them. They irritated me also ;-)) The main difference was that I used the HDR setting on this one but not on the others from Cutt Mill. I don't use it very often as I rarely carry a tripod with me but I have been trying it out with pic's of my garden, just to practice. I appreciate your comments, thank you.

A lovely pair of images Rosa, Personally I prefer this one for the extra depth and sharpness both in the sky and in the water.
A place that's not to far away that I really must visit, thanks for posting.

A lot of mills in this area Roger, so would be worth the visit. Pleased you like this one, I will persevere with the HDR.

I prefer the HDR one as well. I don't have that setting on my camera, otherwise I might make use of it. I often hate HDR pohotos, but your camera seems to have done a good job, Rosa.

Rosalyn Hilborne club has replied to Amelia club
The HDR has four settings Amelia, but it needs to be reset for every shot and with the sunshine on this particular day, I couldn't really see the screen too well, so just tried it the once. I have to admit though that I tend to forget about it most of the time. I will try more shots i n HDR now though. Very pleased you like this one.

They are both good but this one has the better sky. Your in-camera-HDR works great, it doesn't look overdone. I guess with a bit of post-processing you could also darken the sky in the other photo.

Rosalyn Hilborne club has replied to Gudrun club
I think I need a lot more practice in post processing Gudrun. It's fun trying.
