Buildings with character from Hastings' past. These buildings illustrate why it is good to stand back and look above the modern shop front and to either side of it as well. There are often delightful period features which don't catch the eye from close-up.
I have cheated here a bit, where an estate agent's board obstructed the lower bay window of the house. It looked almost identical so I cut and pasted the upper one over the offending board.

Elegant backs - must have had a good view of the cricket in by-gone days! These houses back onto what is now Priory Meadow - a retail shopping development. From Victorian times until the latter half of the 20th century it was home to the Central Cricket Ground - one of the grounds used by Sussex County Cricket Club.
A view that exemplifies Hastings' cliff-dwelling topography. Apart from the seafront and Priory Meadow, there is hardly a flat piece of land in the town!
