The pipes with the curved ends were warm water taps, or faucets for our USA visitors. The shorter pipes did not seem to have a function. The presence of liquid soap dispenser bottles leads me to think that the shorter pipes may have been designed to dispense the soap, but either the working parts had not been fitted or that they had failed.

The 'Circus' relates to the circular pathway around the old power station building, not to clowns, acrobats and prancing horses!

This shot shows some of the former power station's structural and functional steel work.

This immediately looked like a perfect photo opportunity. These panels are, I assume, covering the spaces for future retail or office units. There are several large areas that are either still being developed or are awaiting work to start, to the east of the power station building.

The interior of the central turbine hall of the former power station has had three floors of up-market shops and offices built inside the structure. Some of the original structural steel work has been incorporated. On upper levels there are offices and hotel facilities. I haven't investigated exactly what is up there.

These apartments are part of the regeneration of the area around the enormous former coal-fired power station at Battersea, beside the river Thames near central London. They were designed by the Gehry Partnership. Their curvaceous and slightly random looking stacked shapes are in contrast to the solid massive rectangular form of the old power station building.

Sir Joseph Bazalgette designed and supervised the building of London's first comprehensive sewer system, most of which is still in use today. It followed from the Great Stink - in 1858 - when the smell from earlier poorly designed and maintained sewers reached horrific levels and cholera was rampant. The pumping stations were very ornate as well as functional. One down the Thames at Crossness has been been restored to its high Victorian glory and is open to the public at certain times.

The artificial grass-covered seats aren't heritage items but a quirky addition to the park's provision. There's another group nearby. The blue structures are parts of the old generating equipment. They come with information panels about their former roles.
