Reading & Berkshire

Folder: England beyond London and the South-east
An assortment of images from the town of Reading, in Berkshire, England. I used to pass through it on my way to visit my late parents in Oxford and one of my sisters lives there. Some can be seen in the Buses and coaches…  (read more)

I didn't get one decent shot of these great-looking birds. I haven't got the technical know-how or probably the right equipment to follow birds in the sky. But I thought that in this case quantity won over quality. Yes they are all Red Kites. Nothing else hangs around when they are there and I have zoomed in on this image, and some showing smaller numbers of these birds, and they are clearly Red Kites from their shape and especially their tails.

I didn't notice the coin until I had the image on the computer! It is probably a two pence coin, if that helps to see the scale of the photo.

For information about this impressive and moving memorial please go to www.pottsvctrust.org The level of detail on this sculpture is really striking. The nails in the boots, the canvas webbing, bandages, pipe and tobacco - all are precisely sculpted. Tom Murphy has done a magnificent job.
