The Pommelers Rest Tooley Street London 2 11 2008

The Pommelers Rest Tooley Street London 2 11 2008
A pommeler was someone who worked in a leather tannery. The term is thought to come from the way the workers pounded or pummeled the hides. Bermondsey was one of the country's major centres for the manufacture of leather and leather goods - harness, aprons, boots etc. It was home to the Leather, Hide & Wool Exchange www.ipernity.com/doc/philsutters/40545232
