MV Petra Newhaven early 2021

MV Petra Newhaven early 2021
The floral tributes are for two of the crew of a fishing vessel that sunk off Seaford in November 2020. The skipper survived but the other two men, one from Cornwall and one from Pembrokeshire both died.

An excellent series. During my visits to my relatives in Parkeston I acquired a deep respect for fishermen and the danger which is a part of their lives. On my last visit one fellow, the sole survivor of a sinking, was somehow spotted floating in the North Sea by one of the ferries going to Parkeston Quay. It was the second time he'd been rescued.

The skipper was found fairly quickly holding onto a lifebuoy. One man was still in the wheelhouse when divers went down a day or two later and the other man was washed up miles away quite a long time afterwards. It seems that on a day on which the weather wasn't extreme, a freak wave had caught the vessel from an unexpected angle. They had been out scallop dredging.
