Bath Square Old Portsmouth 11 7 2019

Even if you don't feel the need to visit the Historic Dockyard there is plenty to see in and around Portsmouth. In the recent past I had a family ticket for the Dockyard, With two grandchildren I visited it four times in the year. If the terms are still the same, tickets last for a year. The trip last month was with an older grand-daughter and we didn't visit the Dockyard. We went to Portchester Castle, which was free as I have a bank account, which gains me free access to most Historic England buildings. We then went down to Southsea Castle, which is free to all, and made our way back to the Harbour station via the other fortifications and the Old Portsmouth peninsular. There is still more I want to see and photograph, including Fort Cumberland and the Cathedrals. From my home to the east of Brighton, with a Senior Railcard, the day return is about a tenner. There is an excellent fish & chip shop opposite HMS Warrior - if you are that way inclined.
