Lincoln's Inn

Folder: London
Lincoln's Inn offers guided tours twice a month, so I paid a visit recently. There's some opulent interiors and the history is fascinating. I was, though, conscious throughout of the social privilege that follows from being a member of one of the Inns of Court

The Great Hall

The buildings date from various periods; this one from the nineteenth century. The architect is Philip Hardwick. There is a rather fine dining room inside but the photos are no good as they were setting up for an event.

In the chapel

John Donne, who was preacher of the Inn at the time, and later became Dean of St. Paul's, laid the foundation stone in 1620. The chapel was completed 3 years later. It has been extensively rebuilt several times since then.
