Wallace Monument

Wallace Monument

Folder: Scotland
The tower stands on Abbey Craig, just to the north of Stirling. William Wallace commanded his troops to victory over the English in the Battle of Stirling Bridge in 1297. There are 246 steps to the top of the tower, but it's a narrow spiral, and tricky to pass when crowded: fortunately, I visited towards the end of the day.

The view west

Checking the map, these would seem to be the Menteith Hills. Loch Lomond is beyond, at the southern end.

Forth Oxbow

I remember oxbow lakes from geography lessons at scholl. This is the Forth River looping to the north of Stirling
