Otter Tail Power - Valley City, ND (rural)

Otter Tail Power - Valley City, ND (rural)
An old 23.9kV rural line serving customers outside the Valley City municipal's boundary. This line once had a 41.6kV circuit as a loop into that municipal's system until they switched over to power from WAPA in 1956.

Valley City had a connection to Otter Tail's system from 1925 to 1956, but had never been interested in even being a wholesale customer, so the connection was likely for backup service only.

This certainly is an old line alright! I like the JD pin insulator, as well as the disks on the single-phase deadend. Do you think this could be an original pole from 1925?

The crossarm scar is consistent with the delta arrangement - not the older 2-up style. I would have to say it was probably a 1940s replacement of the older line which in turn dated back to 1917 (the original Sheyenne Valley Light & Power Co. 13.2kV line).

If that pole was ever to be changed out or taken down the insulators and the guy strain would be good to get.. That pole is old and knotty..
