Northern States Power - Sioux Falls, SD

Northern States Power - Sioux Falls, SD
(swiped from Google Maps street view)

One of the singlephase poles on the South Sioux 4160V system while it was still pure 2400V. It's not at all common to find an 8' arm used to support the in-line jumper like so. Note that this pole had straight braces and on the OUTSIDE of the arm. It may have been old enough it was a relic of Sioux Falls Light & Power.

This pole still stands but Xcel has pulled the arm and added rubber chicken strings.

Interesting. So I guess finding braces on the outside of the crossarm signifies pre-NSP construction?

I know that in CT, only the REAL old stuff has braces bolted like that. I suspect this pole would be about as old as these similar ones I photographed recently:

I'm guessing that all the electric company's new year resolution is to replace all the old 4kV grids! Easton, MD is replacing a bit of it and Cardston, AB!
