Remains of Railroad Salvage
|
|
This was originally the Griswold Cotton Mill, a complex of buildings built in 1874. It changed hands several times in the mid-1900s. I remember when it was Railroad Salvage Stores, which closed in 1994. The roof caved in on the building, and part of it was torn down. This is all that's left.

Railroad Salvage Stores

I still remember the cheesy, low-budget tv commercials for Railroad Salvage, featuring owner Ruby Vine and his wife "Choo-Choo." They've been described (aptly) as the Jim and Tammy Faye of retail.

Even though I'm afraid of heights, I sort of wanted to be able to walk over that bridge to the factory on the other side.

Power Lines

From the old towpath (now a bike path) along the Power Canal, Turners Falls. Power was generated up at the top of the canal, and the lines run over to the old mills. This one was originally a paper factory.
