Palimpsest of real and faux ghost signs, Upper Street, Islington
Here's what Sam Roberts has to say about this sign in his book Ghost Signs: A London Story:
"This is the second faux ghost sign on this wall inspired by the original signage advertising the Hare and Hounds Garage. This took its name from th coaching inn that could be found here as far back as 1808.
"The first overpainting was done in 2008 for the Albert & Pearl pub. This borrowed visual elements from the earlier sign but at the expense of the original. In 2012 the Hous of Wolf sign was printed by the scenic artist Tabby Riley, again with a ghosted aesthetic. The advertising strategy appears to have failed, with both businesses lasting less than five years."
