You are so right...
Unfortunately I am somehow (I do not know why) obstinate in keeping my analog submissions just like I get them from linear scans.
Surprisingly I do not have such constrictions when I deal with digital stuff... ;o

I used to use the old 'dodge and burn' to do that ... now I open the camera one stop, and pull down the brightness in post processing. I love grain by the way ... it shows character.
