Hanging Chapel (west view)
The Hanging Chapel is the remaining part of the old town wall of Langport. The chapel was built on top of the wall so that travellers leaving the town could pray for a safe journey and those arriving could give thanks for a safe journey.
Unfortunately many lorry drivers attempt to navigate the portal, ignoring the many warnings of narrow width and low height. Frequently they just damage the structure and vamoose without owning up to their sin. In the most recent incident the driver abandoned his stuck vehicle and ran ... He was traced and the offending lorry was removed after its tyres were deflated.
2022; Currently the road has been closed for a couple of months because yet another HGV driver thought his lorry was the night bus. I would love to see bollards situated either side a couple of feet away from the wall so the the lorries can't even get near it.Very happy to say this latest driver got caught on dash cam.
