Zaubernuss (Hamamelis) - 2x PiP

Zaubernuss (Hamamelis) - 2x PiP

The Witch Hazel is used to treat itching of the skin, has an anti-inflammatory effect, reduces bleeding of small wounds (e.g. minor cuts), helps the injured skin to close and so stimulates wound healing overall. In addition, the flowering bushes already give hope for spring in winter and they even smell a bit!
This natural remedy should not be missing in any medicine chest!

Beautiful plant with somewhat extraordinary flowers. I read the Wikipedia article about and never heard about such plant before. Most certainly doesn't grow up here, I think.

Thanks Sami. You're right, they don't grow in your region. They need short moderate winters. But they are one of the few plants that bloom in winter.

I did some more reading on this plant, and there are few cases in Finland where someone has managed to make them survive and even bloom in mid winter. Nature is amazing!

You didn't mention that the witch hazel flowers smell wonderful in the winter. That must have curative powers too, Klaus. :-)))

I couldn't smell anything in the garden and in the cold. So I took a small branch into the kitchen.

Outstanding!! I have never seen witch hazel before, it's so COOL!!! You got two awesome pictures of this strange and wonderful plant and I also loved your apple picture!

Your ideas were fabulous. I considered doing this too...our property has many medicinal herbs and flowers, and I know I could find archive pictures to process...but...how could I possibly resist the lovely pills and fun things to photograph?! I am SO GLAD that you went this route because I got to see something I've never seen...I"ve HEARD of witch hazel but I really don't know anything about it. So thank you for the wonderful images AND the education, I loved it!!! *high five*

For the apple I quote W. Churchill: one apple to keep the doctor away ... if you aim well!
In here we use aloe vera for the purposes you have hammamelis... everyone uses what is local and so it should always be.

LOL! Throwing the apple after the doctor could perhaps help too. But actually it should be eaten - that helps more...
Aloe Vera is also known here, but does not grow here. I think there are various natural remedies all over the world that serve similar purposes.
